Recognition and Equivalence

The Copper Mark collaborates with other standard systems, across metals and along the value chains, to increase efficiencies and reduce the implementation burden for the users of its assurance framework.

RECOGNITION AND EQUIVALENCE

The Copper Mark Assurance Process recognizes existing standards systems, reporting frameworks, and certifications in order to avoid redundancy and to promote the use of these initiatives. The criteria, process and timelines applied by the Copper Mark to recognize existing Systems are defined in the Copper Mark Recognition Process.

In line with the Copper Mark Recognition Process, the Copper Mark has developed a tool for sites implementing the RRA Criteria Guide 3.0 and already have or are working to incorporate an assessment against another standard. The tool identifies what is recognized as “equivalent” within the Copper Mark Assessment Process, as well as what additional information must be verified, or assessment activities must be completed.

  • RRA-Copper Mark Equivalency Matrix
  • Copper Mark Recognition and the Equivalency Matrix
  • Ecovadis (for self-assessment only)

The Copper Mark is recognized by the following Systems in whole or in part as equivalent:

  • Design for Freedom Toolkit Relevant Certification
  • Ecovadis
  • ICMM Mining Principles
  • London Metal Exchange Approved Recognized "Track A" alignment assessed standard
  • London Metal Exchange Approved Recognized "Track A" Standard, approved for "ISO 14001 / 45001 or equivalent"
  • ResponsibleSteel and accompanying Copper Mark Explanatory Note
  • USGBC Company Standards for the Social Equity Pilot Credit

The Joint Due Diligence Standard has been independently verified to be 100% OECD-aligned.

Copper Producers may submit a request to the Copper Mark for an equivalence review of a standard or certification that is not yet included in the RRA-Copper Mark Equivalency Matrix.

The information on recognition by the Copper Mark or of the Copper Mark by existing Systems will be updated on a regular basis.
