The Copper Mark and CCCMC formalise collaboration promoting responsible minerals and metals production

Xiamen, China The Copper Mark and the China Chamber of Commerce of Metals, Minerals & Chemicals Importers & Exporters (CCCMC) today signed a memorandum of understanding that solidifies their collaboration to benchmark their respective standards and enhance equivalency in standards for responsible production across the minerals and metals value chain.

The agreement was signed during the International Forum on Sustainable Mineral Supply Chains (SMISC) in Xiamen, China— a high-level international forum on mineral supply chain governance. The event provides an opportunity to demonstrate the synergies between the Copper Mark and CCCMC who will both present during panel session alongside prominent industry stakeholders discussing responsible production standards, traceability and chain of custody in the value chain.

In addition, the two entities recently partnered on a benchmarking study examining the standards and assurance processes of the two organisations, to identify where collaboration on standards development can add value.

Speaking from the event, the Copper Mark’s Director of Value Chain, Mike Smith acknowledged the significance of this agreement as the Copper Mark grows its engagement in Asia. “We are very pleased and proud to partner with our colleagues in China to strengthen our collaboration on benchmarking, recognition and industry engagement to support responsible production. It also symbolises a mutual goal to assist end users to navigate this landscape. It is important to ensure in this time of changing demands that international responsible production standards are both robust and practical, to enable real impact on the ground. We are looking forward to working together with CCCMC and others to help shape the future landscape for responsible mining and metals value chains.”
