The Copper Mark calls for applications for Directors for evolved Board

The Copper Mark is calling for applications for Directors to help lead the organisation through its next phase of growth and as the organisation evolves its governance structure and identity to advance its full value chain approach to support responsible production from mine to the end user.

“This is a unique opportunity to take a seat at the decision-making table as we expand our work to boost responsible production at more sites around the globe. We need diverse candidates with the experience and passion to support our value-chain-wide mission,” said Michèle Brülhart, Executive Director of the Copper Mark.

To fit the Copper Mark’s evolving governance structure the recruitment is for Board of Directors seats allocated for the following categories.

  • Mining Stakeholders: Directors from mining affected stakeholders and rights-holders. This will include one Director representing each of the following: Indigenous Peoples, labour, social/human rights and environment, with a blend of local/regional and global perspectives.
  • Value Chain Companies: Directors from value chain companies including: two consumer facing companies, one standalone recycler, smelter or refiner; and a component manufacturer.
  • Value Chain Stakeholders: Directors from non-commercial value chain stakeholders committed to responsible minerals and metals value chains. To be drawn from the following two categories: (i) international NGOs, multi-lateral organisations, multistakeholder initiatives and academics; and (ii) directly affected stakeholders who reflect social, community, environmental or labour concerns.

Interested parties can view more information about the role, criteria and responsibilities and apply or nominate candidates here. The closing date for applications and nominations is 7 January 2026.

Appointed Directors will join the Copper Mark as it builds on existing activities focused on copper, molybdenum, nickel and zinc production. It includes the Copper Mark’s suite of standards that have been implemented at more than 100 sites and established partnerships with 60 mid- and downstream companies.

Going forward, the Copper Mark will take a two-pronged approach, underpinned by standards and tools on one hand, and a Responsible Metals Value Chain Platform on the other. The platform provides a network of supply chain actors and hub of knowledge and facilitates collaboration among important stakeholders including companies up and down the value chain, CSOs, academics, regulatory experts, and end-users.

Recognising the need to further simplify the standards and assurance landscape and grow its impact, the Copper Mark has been one of the four partners developing the Consolidated Mining Standard Initiative (CMSI), alongside the ICMM, Mining Association of Canada and World Gold Council. The CMSI process will produce a global standard for responsible practices for mining companies of all sizes, across all locations and commodities. Upon finalisation, the evolved Copper Mark will own and manage implementation of the new standard.

The Copper Mark’s evolved governance structure was developed through the CMSI process, with extensive input obtained through consultation with the public and a wide array of stakeholders. It features an independent Board, comprising 17 persons, including one Independent Chair and 16 non-executive Directors equally balancing commercial and non-commercial interests from both mining (upstream) and value chain (downstream) participants.

The structure supports shared decision-making power through consensus, fostering widespread confidence and buy-in from diverse stakeholders. By design of the structure, no single group will have priority or undue influence over the others.
