Assessors

Site's conformance with the Copper Mark Criteria is independently verified by approved assessors.

Approved Assessors

A site's conformance with the Copper Mark Criteria is independently verified by approved assessors.

As of 2025, The Copper Mark and Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) manage a joint list of approved assurance providers. In order to become an approved assurance provider, qualified individuals are invited to complete the online application form, participate in one of the regularly scheduled training sessions, and pass an exam.

Assessor Applications – 2026 Update

Applications for new assurance providers are limited in 2026. As we transition toward the Consolidated Mining Standard Initiative (CMSI), we are focused on supporting and strengthening our existing pool of approved assurance providers to ensure consistency, quality, and programme integrity. The need for and applications from prospective assurance providers will be considered on a case-by-case basis, where required to support programme delivery and maintain assurance capacity.

The Copper Mark

The Copper Mark approves individual assessors in accordance with the requirements outlined in the Copper Mark Assurance Process. All assessors are encouraged to consult the Copper Mark Assessor Management Procedure for detailed guidance on eligibility criteria, responsibilities, and expectations.

Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM)

During the transition to the Consolidated Mining Standard Initiative (CMSI), TSM still requires individual verifiers to follow the requirements outlined in the TSM Verification Guide.

Please note that The Copper Mark and TSM have recently consolidated their assessor pools. Both organizations now share a common list of approved individual assessors, supporting consistency and alignment across assurance frameworks. The Copper Mark and TSM approve individuals, not assessment firms. Firm-level information is provided for ease of reference. For details on each assessor’s geographic coverage and subject matter expertise, please contact the assessor directly or reach out to the Copper Mark.

For any inquiries, please contact assessors@coppermark.org.
